PHOTOGRAPHERS’ LOCATION NOTES
Sarge located this vehicle while on vacation in France with his wife Madeleine and their two sons in 1998/9.
The story goes - as told to Sarge - that this amazing vehicle was custom built for an American rancher, who insisted on some very eccentric features in the coachwork.
Being a keen hunter, and so the vehicle could be used as a hide, he specified a sliding trap at the rear to allow a rifle to be sighted from the rear seating out the back of the car.
With its unique double domed in-curved roof line (possibly to accommodate a driver and passengers with generous hats) it has a central roof gutter channelling rainwater into a storage tank located in the trunk. It is certainly very unusual, along with spot lights fitted to mounted bulls horns flanking the grill and headlights.
And the final eccentric oddity, for a vehicle going to a North American destination and built in France, it is right hand drive.
Purchased in the USA and repatriated to France the vehicle has been living in a rural barn near a provincial village for a number of years awaiting restoration.
Though the image was captured mid-winter in a provincial French barn, an unusual and fortunate collection of objects and farm produce gives the impression of location in the south-west of the
USA - right down to the broken and rusting pistol resting on the old potbelly stove
