PHOTOGRAPHERS’ LOCATION NOTES
This shot of a 1969 Ford Mustang resulted from a request by the presenter of our local A.B.C. television program, Stateline. He wanted to do a five minute spot on the show with an interesting subject. He was a bit cool on tractors and English Austin cars but when Ben mentioned we knew of an interesting Ford Mustang, he got fired up.
When we got there the owner said that he had tidied the shed which the photo belies. The vehicle was literally buried in junk and covered with thick dust. We removed a lot of stuff & dust just so we could see the car.
This spectacular image was memorable to us as it was the evening of the Twin Towers disaster in New York City This 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback, immortalised by Steve McQueen in the 1969 film “Bullit,” with an epic chase through San Francisco streets made the car synonymous with Californian popular culture of the 60s and 70s.
This shed bound car surrounded by the colours and objects of the 60s, impatiently awaiting restoration, has lost none of the spirit that has made it such a popular icon of American culture.
