PHOTOGRAPHERS’ LOCATION NOTES

How to view and interpret an image?, – this photograph is an object lesson on how to do that. The interpretation and emotional reaction to an image is highly
dependent on the viewer’s cultural background and familiarity with the subject matter in the picture.

For a car restorer this image is archetypal, it represents the ultimate dream of finding an abandoned car in a country barn surrounded by chickens.

For those who know of the car’s owners (Mark & Mylie) It is an allegory of their lives together, with the vehicles being symbols of the couple. The objects strewn around the scene are story telling devices or metaphors of events in their lives. For those not familiar with the above two scenarios the image is probably just a well composed, emotive, rustic, scene - and that's okay as well.

Ben & Sarge created this picture in 2015, along with the creation of a 70 minute documentary (Oldshed Adventures) which shows how the photograph was created.
