PHOTOGRAPHERS’ LOCATION NOTES

Sarge created this image in June 2001. It's shows a mid winter scene of Perth, Western Australia from Matilda Bay. It was photographed on film, and to create the feeling of midwinter, Sarge exaggerated the coolness & mistiness of the scene by adding a blue filter plus a slight soft focus filter and then breathing heavily on the lens to fog the front element completely.

As the fog cleared from the centre of the image he clicked the shutter.

With image making it must remembered that the sense of sight is the only one of the five senses present in any photograph and the senses of taste, smell, touch and hearing are not in the final image.

To recreate the sense of coldness in this scene Sarge has used a blue colour, which in the mind is associated with coldness and added a mistiness in the scene with the use of filters (and heavy breathing) to simulate the feeling of a cold misty morning.
